Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, Tehreek-e-Hurriyet Jammu and Kashmir has demanded the immediate release of illegally detained Kashmiri Hurriyet leaders and activists, languishing in different jails and interrogation centres in and outside the occupied territory. They urged India to give up its rigid stance on Kashmir and resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir so that permanent peace could be established in South Asia. Tehreek-e-Hurriyet leaders said that the international community should take notice of the increased human rights violations by Indian troops in the territory.
LAHORE: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ), Faisalabad Union of Journalists (FUJ), Gujranwala Union of Journalists (GUJ), Lahore Press Club (LPC), leaders of opposition parties and members of the bar association and civil society held a peaceful protest rally from the LPC to Charing Cross on Tuesday. Addressing the sit-in gathering of journalists at Charing Cross, PFUJ President Pervaiz Shaukat, said that on the call of the PFUJ a black day was observed against the brutality of doctors of the Jinnah Hospital in the country.

Islamabad—The Ministry of Minorities has announced 10 religious festivals of the minorities to be celebrated officially in Pakistan including Besakhi, Dewali, Holi, Eid-i- Rizwan, Chelumjusht, Nauroze, Christmas and Easter. These festivals belong to Sikh, Hindu, Bahai, Kalash, Parsi and Christian communities living in different areas of the country.
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry directed the Punjab provincial police officer (PPO) on Thursday to submit a report on the findings of a case filed by a student against a male teacher. The CJP took suo motu notice on the appeal of a student who had alleged that her male teacher had dishonoured her. The action was taken on a news report published on April 7 and the CJP has sought the report from the PPO by April 14.
CHITRAL: The Greek social worker, Professor Athanasios Lerounis, who was kidnapped by Nuristan-based Afghan Taliban from Bamburet valley six months ago, reached Chitral on Wednesday, official sources said on Thursday. Dr Zainul Wahab, an archaeologist and close friend of Prof Athanasios while expressing happiness over the latter’s safe release said: “Prof Athanasios is a sincere friend of Pakistan and its people including the Kalash community. He is an important Greek academic and his only agenda is to serve humanity,” he added.
Dhaka: Bangladesh and Pakistan will have to discuss the issue of the latter’s apology for crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971. Ashraf Qureshi, the newly appointed Pakistan high commissioner, said on Thursday that the two countries needed to sit for a bilateral meeting to decide the matter stipulated in an agreement almost four decades ago.

The PFUJ would move an appeal at the globe level for urging the international media organizations, human rights activists, UNO to ensure safety of media persons.
